Raymur Pedestrian Bridge
History
This bridge is so historic its amazing. When the Raymur house projects opened in 1971 parents were angry that the only way their kids could get to school was by crossing the train tracks. On January 26 1971 twenty-five mothers blocked the train tracks protesting for a safe way , so that their kids can get to school. The mothers set up tents across the tracks. Over a short period of time the city agreed to build a safe way to school.
Importance of this bridge
This bridge is important because it's a safe way to school. The bridge eliminates any risk of getting hit by a train. This bridge is important to me because it's another option to walk to/home from school and probably the safer option too. It's important to the community because parents probably feel way more sure that their kids are going to be safe crossing the bridge walking to/from school or activities. The bridge is also a faster way to get to Seymour elementary.
Social Value
The social value of this place is pretty valuable. If the militant mothers weren't social about getting this bridge built then who knows what would've happened. You can change anything if you organize well and are social about it. People will agree and join you on this quest for something to change. That's what these mothers did and I applaud them for getting this bridge built. So if you want to change something, then just be social and most likely people will have the same goals as you.
Spiritual value
In my opinion this place holds a lot of spiritual value because the mothers that made this place a thing may be still really important. If the mothers come back and look at the train tracks this can be a memory for them, that they fought hard for this bridge to be built. Or maybe to their grandkids it could motivate and inspire them to fight.. It can probably motivate anybody to fight and be social about a problem and solve it.
Aesthetic Value
This place in my opinion doesn't look great to me, but it can to some people. As you can see in the picture, I would say the picture looks pretty aesthetic if I do say so myself. This bridge can be aesthetic in it's own way though. To the mothers the bridge is pleasing because that was their doing and they appreciate the bridge a lot. Humans are usually attracted to bright colours so,this can attract a lot of people.
Conclusion/Questions about the place
. I also have some questions too. My first question is why did you guys paint it teal? In my honest opinion the bridge would've looked a lot better if it was a blue or red colour. Also why did you guys build it like a slope than kind of like a spiral? In conclusion this place has a lot of history, spiritual, importance to the community/the militant mothers and is a staple in Vancouver history.
